Applications now open for the NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR) Programme – Overcoming ethnicity-based inequities in access and experience of health and care services

The NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR) Programme is dedicated to commissioning research that tackles the obstacles faced by disadvantaged groups when accessing health and social care services, as well as improving their overall outcomes. These disadvantaged groups consist of individuals who are more likely to experience poverty, social exclusion, discrimination, or violence compared to the general population. It is crucial to address the structural and systemic barriers that these groups encounter within the healthcare system. Therefore, the current call for research proposals in the HSDR Programme focuses on enhancing service access, uptake, and experience, as well as improving health and social care outcomes for people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

This research call aims to specifically address the issues related to socioeconomic disadvantage, structural racism, and discrimination that contribute to health inequalities. Researchers are encouraged to concentrate on specific groups or services while demonstrating the potential for broader applicability across health and care systems, and should evaluate both new and existing interventions or services, taking into consideration cultural adaptation or specific designs for ethnic minority groups.

The stage one deadline for applications is 1pm on 20 September 2023. Click here for more details.
